What the college says

If you have a passion for patisserie, you'll find this course a useful first step towards a career as a pastry chef. Aimed at learners with little or no experience, it's also suitable for you if you already work in the industry and want to move on to or get specialist knowledge and skills, or even if you just want to learn to bake for fun.

What you need to get on

The most common entry route is through successful achievement of Level 1 Introduction to the hospitality industry, together with appropriate maths and English skills. Direct entry from school is possible where you have achieved 4 or more GCSEs at 3 points or grade D or above (including English). However due to the practical nature of this course you may be asked to undertake practical assignments to support your application.

How you are assessed

Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.

What this level means

The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.

Is it open to 16 to 18 year olds?
