Year 12 focuses on two areas; how democracy in Britain works and how government works. You will explore the relationship between political ideas, political institutions and processes using present political issues, current debates and politicians as case studies. You will develop a critical awareness of the nature of politics. You will acquire knowledge of Government and Politics with special reference to the Thatcher, Major, Blair, Brown, the Coalition, Cameron and May governments. Year 13 looks at what politics should be, focusing on the key political ideologies that have shaped political systems across the world and the current conflicts facing International Politics today.

What you need to get on

6th Form entry: The overall 6th Form entry requirements are: a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grades 9-4, including a grade 9-4 in English. Subject specific entry: GCSE Grade 4 in English.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
