The course focuses on the key political issues of our time, both nationally and internationally, and to provide a context to these events. There are three components to the A Level: It is very important for students to follow current affairs to supplement the teaching of this subject. Lessons will require students to carry out independent research and link topics covered in class to current political events. Students will be expected to take an active role in their learning through discussions, simulations, presentations and debates. It is an essay-based subject, so in addition to an interest in current affairs, students must also have an ability to complete extended writing tasks.

What you need to get on

6 x GCSE Grades 9-4, including English Language or English Literature Grade 9-6.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.

The A-level-equivalent step, and what universities and employers ask for.
