You will study a range of issues linked to contemporary politics and government mechanisms, placing UK politics within the context of EU and world politics. You will learn about the theories which underpin political processes and government decisions. You will compare the UK and the USA as political systems. There has never been a better time to study politics, and with the widely renowned theories predicting the demise of the nation state now having to be re-written, this course is really at the forefront of knowledge. As such, it stands as excellent preparation for university study. What you will do • Study the different areas of national government • Research various aspects of democracy, government and citizenship • Make presentations on your findings • Engage in discussions about various political ideas • Compare different countries • Complete projects and reports on world and national events. • Follow the passage of laws through Parliament • Develop a deep understanding of why different countries arrange their political systems as they do. Future prospects: A Level Politics ties in well with many courses but is especially supportive of Higher Education courses in: • Law • History • Social Sciences • Geography. It would be useful for careers in: • Local Government/National Government and research • Police • Legal work • Social Services.
