Government and Politics is a well respected A Level course accepted at all of the top universities. The course is designed to develop a wider understanding of the role of politics in the modern world, from the philosophical origins of the concept of the modern state to the internal workings of the state itself. It is also designed to encourage debate on the key issues affecting the UK today. Through these issues you are able to develop both your written and oral communication skills. You are also encouraged to form your own political opinions and express them through persuasive argument. The course also aims to improve your independent research skills and teach you to view various sources of information with a critical eye.

What you need to get on

The general entry requirement to be offered a place at Urmston Grammar Sixth Form from September 2026 is a minimum of five GCSE passes which include: 2 x grade 7s, 3 x grade 6s, GCSE grades must also include a minimum of grade 5 in English Language & Maths.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
