Politics is the study of power and participation, and the institutions that exercise power. Over a two year period, you will study three components: Component 1 UK Politics and Political Ideas: Our role as citizens in the democratic process; the role and value of elections and referendums; how political parties operate; the role of pressure groups in a democracy; the core ideologies which shape our beliefs. Component 2 UK Government: The British Constitution; the functions of the Government; Parliament; the judiciary and human rights. Component 3 Global Politics: Sovereignty; Globalisation; Global Governance; the European Union

What you need to get on

Studying A level Politics requires an ability to analyse, evaluate and construct written arguments. A Level 6 or above is required from two of the following: English Language, English Literature, History, Geography or Religious Studies.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
