In Year 1 you will gain an understanding of how the UK political system works, and how it is linked to contemporary concerns and events as well as the political theory which underpins decisions. This will be delivered through three areas: 1. UK Politics – Political Parties, Pressure Groups, Democracy, Voting 2. UK Government – Constitution, Executive Power, Judiciary, Parliament 3. Core Political Theories – Conservativism, Liberalism, Socialism, Feminism. In Year 2 you will look at politics on a global scale, how nations react to each other and global issues such as power, sovereignty, human rights, terrorism, globalisation, international bodies, regionalism, war, conflict, environment, poverty and corruption. There will be three exam papers: 1. UK Politics and Core Political Ideas 2. UK Government and Core Political Ideas 3. Theories of Global Politics

What you need to get on

6 GCSE/BTEC passes at Level 4 or above. It is desirable to achieve a Level 5 or above in this subject at GCSE (or a related subject).

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
