This course is for students who want to continue studying chemistry after GCSE. You'll already be familiar with some of the topics, but the A level will give you the chance to study these and some new ones, in much greater depth. You might be choosing chemistry because you're headed for a scientific career, though it will give you a set of skills that can be used in a wide range of non-scientific careers too.

What you need to get on

If you have taken chemistry as a Separate Science at GCSE, you will be expected to have got a minimum of a grade 6. If you have taken chemistry as part of a Science Course at GCSE, you will be expected to have got a minimum of a grade 6/6. Since A-level Chemistry requires a lot of technical reading and mathematical analysis you must achieve a minimum of a Grade 6 in English and Maths at GCSE.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
