If you are interested in the world around you and current affairs, or you just want to find out more about who makes the big decisions and why, then you should consider taking Government and Politics. Government and Politics is a very relevant subject where you learn about the issues that have a much bigger impact on your life than you may realise. You will find out where power really lies in the UK and how democratic the UK really is, examining issues such as the coalition government, the ?plebgate? row and protests over cuts and tuition fees. You will also study US politics, including the election of Barack Obama and why gun control is such a big issue there. The study of A Level politics will allow you to develop important skills such as constructing arguments, analytical writing and making supported judgements. As you need to be aware of politics stories in the news, you will develop a strong knowledge of current affairs. Debates and presentations are important so you will develop your communication skills. An A Level in Politics will be a strong foundation for a range of degree courses such as Law, History, Sociology, Economics, Philosophy and Politics. The skills you develop in A Level Politics will help you in a wide range of degree courses and careers.

What you need to get on

To study A Levels at North Chadderton you must have achieved a minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grades A"?-C. This needs to include English as good literacy skills are important. An interest in current affairs would also help.
