Chemistry is a challenging and rewarding discipline that will allow access to many wider fields of study. It combines aspects of theoretical and practical science to develop understanding of the material world. This is a demanding course, aimed at a fairly high academic level. While support is made available throughout the course there is an expectation that students are reading around subject material and developing their knowledge independently. Why study this subject at A-Level? Chemistry is an essential component of many allied vocations and is compulsory for chemical engineering, pharmacy, medicine and veterinary science. Students also go on to study pure and applied chemistry at university. This leads to careers in scientifically-related fields or careers in management and finance.

What you need to get on

Applicants will require at least a Grade 6 in GCSE Chemistry (or Science and Additional Science GCSEs e.g. AQA Trilogy).

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.

The A-level-equivalent step, and what universities and employers ask for.
