A level Chemistry goes into much more detail than GCSE. It attempts to answer the big question 'what is the world made of' and it's the search for this answer that makes this subject so fascinating. From investigating how one substance can be changed drastically into another, to researching a new wonder drug to save millions of lives, the opportunities that chemistry provides are endless. Chemistry is required for Medicine. Complements A Level Biology, strongly recommended that students have a strong foundation in Mathematics with a grade 6 at GCSE.

What you need to get on

Minimum sixth form entry requirement of five GCSE grades 9-5 including grade 5 in English and Mathematics. Subject criteria: GCSE grade 7 in Chemistry or 7-7 in combined Science.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
