A level Chemistry opens the door to a broad range of careers and degree courses, including: Healthcare professions, Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy; Veterinary Science and careers in Agriculture and the food science industry; The water and energy supply industries; Environmental science, the recycling industry and tackling global issues including pollution and climate change. You will learn transferable skills required in a range of careers, including the use of practical equipment and reagents to perform scientific research, learning to use increasingly sophisticated instruments for investigative work and the analysis, interpretation and evaluation of scientific data. Year 12 builds upon topics covered in GCSE Chemistry, including structure and bonding, the Periodic Table, different types of chemical reaction and Organic Chemistry. In Year 13 you are introduced to new concepts which build upon topics taught in Year 12 and which prepare you for the transition onto degree level science courses. You will learn why chemical reactions happen and at what rate, study Transition Metal elements in detail and learn how chemists use synthetic routes to produce important molecules such as pharmaceuticals and fuels.
