This qualification focuses on practical skills and the technical knowledge required to gain entry to the domestic and commercial plumbing and heating sector, which forms part or the greater Construction and Building Services Engineering industry. The course ensures that when the learner completes the qualification they will have gained the necessary practical experience and some expectation of the situations that they could face in a job role within the plumbing and hesating sector. It covers the fundamental knowledge and understanding of a broad range of plumbing and heating competencies and has been developed in consultation with national awarding bodies and industry to ensure that it meets the needs of the building services engineering sector. You'll learn how to install, test and maintain a full range of domestic plumbing and heating systems, including, hot and cold water supply systems, domestic and commercial heating systems and above ground drainage and sanitation systems.
What you need to get on
There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification although Centres should ensure that the learners have the potential to achieve the units selected within this qualification. Learners must have the minimum levels of literacy and numeracy to comply with the health and safety aspects of the scheme, the completion of the learning outcomes and any assessment requirements.
How you are assessed
Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.
What this level means
The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
