If you're passionate about working with animals and ready to build a career in the industry, the CERT L2 Animal Care (16–18 only) course is the perfect opportunity to take your skills and understanding to the next level. Designed to give you a well-rounded insight into the world of animal care, this course combines hands-on experience with essential theoretical knowledge to prepare you for employment or further study. You’ll explore a wide range of topics, including animal behaviour, handling, feeding, health and biology. You’ll also develop your understanding of British wildlife, learning how to care for native species, protect their habitats, and support their rehabilitation. Our expert tutors will guide you through both classroom learning and practical sessions, helping you grow in confidence and competence. An essential part of your course will be a work placement within the animal care industry. This gives you your first taste of life in a professional setting, applying your skills in real time, gaining industry insight and building experience that employers truly value. After completing the course, you’ll have a range of progression options. Many students continue to the Animal Management Level 3 National Extended Diploma. You could also choose to specialise in dog grooming or animal nursing or go straight into employment in animal-related settings such as kennels, catteries, rescue centres or pet retail. What you need to get on
You should have a genuine interest in this subject, You must have a Grade 3 (D) and 4 (C) Maths GCSE and English Language GCSE. You must have 3 GCSEs Grade 3(D) in other subjects which must include a science.
How you are assessed
Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.
What this level means
The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
