What the college says
This course aims to explore and make sense of the political process in the UK. You will study: the political systems in the UK - looking at structures of authority and power; how parliament attempts to hold the executive to account; and comparing how they differ from those of other systems. You will consider how political events and issues impact on the political process and government decision making. It is an essential part of the course that students read widely and access a variety of media resources. In the first year, you will study: - Ideas of democracy and participation, as well as examining the representative process - The major institutions of UK government - The impact and desirability of political and constitutional change, including relationships within the EU In the second year, you will study: - Political ideologies, examining the major ideas of Liberalism, Conservatism, Socialism and Anarchism - The ideological traditions that have developed out of, or been encouraged in, opposition. These include Feminism, Ecologist, Multiculturalism and Nationalism
