Chemistry is the study of the composition, structure, properties and change of the matter which makes up our world. You will study the world right down to its molecular and atomic structure, discovering more about the elements and compounds which surround us in our daily lives. You must be aged 16-18 to apply for this course.

What you need to get on

To study 3 A Levels youll need at least 5 GCSEs at grades 9-4 (A*-C) including GCSE English at grade 4 (C) or above and Maths at grade 5 (C) or above. To study 4 A Levels youll need at least 6 GCSEs at grades 9-6 (A*-C) including GCSE English at grade 4 (C) or above and Maths at grade 5 (C) or above. One of your GCSEs must be a Grade 6 (B) or above in GCSE Chemistry or GCSE Combined Science: Trilogy, or a 5 in Chemistry if you have a 6 in GCSE Biology.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
