Three AS units aim to provide an extended foundation in the study of Chemistry. Unit 1, Atoms, Bonds and Groups introduce the further study of inorganic chemistry, metals, non metals and the bonding and structure of substances. Unit 2 deals with the chemistry of carbon compounds and energy changes associated with their use as a fuel. The effect of their use in this way on the environment is also studied. Unit 3 is a practical assessment derived from a variety of experimental tasks. A2 unit 1 extends the studies of carbon compounds and includes industrial analytical techniques. Polymers and their synthesis are included here. Unit 2 considers reactions and the energy changes associated with them. Unit 3 is a series of practical assessments derived from a variety of experimental tasks.

What you need to get on

5 GCSEs at grades 9-6 with grade 6 in English language and grade 7 in mathematics, two grade 7s in double science GCSE or a grade 7 in chemistry and grade 6 in biology and physics

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
