What the college says
Sociology is the study of human society; it draws on a variety of viewpoints in order to understand the social world around us. In this course you will learn about how society shapes people’s ideas and behaviour and you will relate this to your own experience of living in British society. You will also study how societies change over time and how societies differ across cultures. You will look at how gender, ethnicity and social class affects our lives. This course will help you to think critically about the world and explore different perspectives on society by drawing on sociological theories and key studies. You will study the following areas in detail: Family, Education, Crime & Deviance, Social Stratification and Research Methods.

How you are assessed
Entry level and Level 1 study, English and maths retakes, and supported programmes.
What this level means
The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
