What the college says

Sociology provides us with a greater understanding of society and the way it shapes people. It poses, and attempts to explain, fundamental questions relating to our very existence. What shapes our behaviour? Do we control our own destiny or do social pressures determine our actions? Why do certain people do better in education than others? Why are certain people more likely to commit crime than others? The subject bridges many different areas and so blends well with Geography,History, History of Art, Psychology, English and Business Studies. It can be studied with any combination of subjects. In Year 12 students are assessed through two internally assessed examinations. In Year 13 students are assessed through three externally assessed examinations. Sociology students can pursue a wide variety of career paths including the Media, Public Relations, Law, Human Resources, Management, Teaching, Market Research, the public sector or any of the caring professions.
