Students who are inquisitive about what goes on in society, those who are willing to interview people, carry out surveys and observe others in their natural setting are likely to enjoy sociology. Students must study the following core themes: 1) socialization, culture and identity and 2) social differentiation, power and stratification. Students learn to evaluate the sociological investigations of named researchers. Students in later modules continue to focus on contemporary society but will learn to analyse, interpret and evaluate sociological ideas in much greater depth, through the units Beliefs in Society and Crime and Deviance

What you need to get on

In addition to meeting the 6th form entry requirements students will need a Grade 5 in Sociology if studied at GCSE, otherwise Grade 6 in English Language GCSE.

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
