What the college says

Sociology is a highly popular subject at both A-level and degree level. You will study the following two core themes: socialisation, culture and identity and social differentiation, power and stratification. These themes will run through many areas of social life. In addition, students must understand the central focus of UK society today, with consideration given to the siting of UK society within its globalised context. The main areas of Sociology will be studied, but in particular Education, Families and Households and Research Methods. The skills you will acquire during the course lend themselves to a variety of career opportunities. However, occupations specific to the subject involve those within Social Work, Public Relations, Human Resources, Teaching and the Probation Services.
