Sociology is the study of how society works. It looks at trends or patterns of behaviour and then explores the underlying causes by examining the research. In Sociology we are constantly asking ?why?? For example: ?Why are females more successful than males in education today?? ?Why are some groups of people more likely to commit crime?? ?Why is marriage in decline?? To answer these questions and others, students need to develop excellent independent research skills and have a keen interest in current affairs. We also discuss changes in Law and how this can influence behaviour. Students have to construct a coherent argument by assessing the evidence in order to reach a logical conclusion. Sociology is a popular subject for those who are considering Law at university as well as the Social Sciences and a variety of ?people? related careers

GCSE Grade 6 or above in English Language/Literature, History or Religious Studies.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
