What the college says

Sociology can be defined as ‘the science of society’. Society affects our entire lives from cradle to grave. Sociology investigates the influences that society has on all of us. Through this subject we aim to consider how groups interact and raise crucial questions such as: • Why are some groups more powerful than others? • Why do we do as we are told? • Why do some people achieve more than others? The course examines key aspects of society such as The Family, Education, The Media, Crime, Deviance and Theory and Methods. Students are presented with a wide range of learning opportunities including role-play, debates and student presentations. We also attend conferences and draw on the skills of guest speakers.
