What the college says
Sociology is the study of our society, of its people and their behaviour. If you want to understand society and explore why it is the way it is then AS Sociology will offer you a general introduction to the subject. You will examine and investigate the structure of society, social institutions such as the family and the education system. You will learn how to think about the social world in a way that goes beyond our normal 'common sense' understanding.
What you need to get on
An average of 5 in English and Maths or a 5 in Sociology plus at least three 9-5 grades in other GCSE subjects
How you are assessed
Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
What this level means
The A-level-equivalent step, and what universities and employers ask for.
