What the college says
The aim of the course is to develop the basic employment skills, practical skills and knowledge required in order to become a competent and employable carpenter. It�s about preparing you to meet the needs of employers and preparing you to work in the industry. The course consists of practical and theoretical elements, and both parts of the course need to be successfully completed to achieve this qualification. Employers will expect good attendance, good behaviour and good communication skills enabling you to interact with clients, work safely, use initiative as well as having carpentry and joinery skills. As the programme progresses, you will build upon your skills in preparation for the practical assessments and knowledge tests. The programme will prepare you for employment as a skilled crafts person. A large part of the programme is project based allowing you to acquire practical skills and job-related knowledge. As a college we will be reinforcing the values expected in industry to give you the skills to be successful in work and life.
What you need to get on
Successful completion of a level 1 Diploma in Carpentry & Joinery And Grade 3 GCSE (or equivalent) in maths and English
How you are assessed
Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.
What this level means
The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
