What the college says

This course is the first step to becoming an outdoor instructor or working in the outdoor and adventurous industry. Throughout the year you will improve your knowledge of the outdoor industry and begin to enhance your skills in becoming an outdoor practitioner. Within the course you will gain an understanding of how the body systems work and respond to exercise, you will also design and undertake a training programme to improve your fitness. The course will also involve you developing skills in a range of land and water-based outdoor and adventurous activities, such as climbing, mountain biking, windsurfing and sailing.

What you need to get on

A range of 3/2 grades at GCSE.

How you are assessed

One subject in depth, assessed largely through coursework and projects.

What this level means

The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
