The course has two main aims. The first is to challenge students to become critical readers of prose fiction, poetry and non-fiction texts through a close study of a range of culturally relevant and diverse texts. We have carefully selected texts for this course that will enrich our students’ understanding of the world around them and challenge their ability to respond to texts with a critical and open-minded approach. The second aim of this course is to challenge students to become reflective and versatile authors of their own creative writing. The creative writing aspect of the course not only challenges students to write their own fiction and non-fiction pieces, but also encourages them to reflect on their decisions as a writer and develop their own unique authorial styles. This is an exciting element of the A-level course that aspiring young writers should consider!​​

Students should have achieved a Grade 6 in GCSE English Literature and Language to enrol on the course.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
