What the college says
A-level mathematics extends students' mathematical knowledge and problem solving skills from GCSE, providing them with a foundation of tools and techniques often needed in the workplace and in higher education. A-level mathematics is made up of six modules of equal weighting; four compulsory pure mathematics modules - covering techniques from Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry and Calculus - and two application modules from Decision, Mechanics, and Statistics. An AS-level in mathematics is comprised of two pure mathematics modules and one application. Decision mathematics covers networks, algorithms and sorting, Mechanics: forces, energy and motion, and Statistics: probability and data handling. All modules are assessed by an examination of 1hr and 30 minutes.
