What the college says

A successful modern economy needs well-qualified young mathematicians, engineers, scientists, economists and computer scientists. These fields all require a high level of mathematical skill. Mathematical ability is a priceless asset and if you have it, make the most of it. Studying Mathematics at LRGS guarantees you will be taught by an experienced, successful department. Pure Mathematics forms the main part of the course and is taught alongside its applications in the fields of Mechanics and Statistics. Mathematics can be combined with many other subjects in the Sixth Form. The statistical content of the course supports the study of Geography, Biology and Economics among others. The mechanics content of the course is very beneficial in support of Physics and covers the building blocks required for the study of Engineering. We strongly encourage students to broaden the range of skills that they will develop in the sixth form by studying Mathematics alongside a language or a humanities subject in addition to the traditional sciences. We offer plenty of opportunity for Mathematics students to extend their scope and skills outside the curriculum by using the United Kingdom Maths Trust (UKMT) Senior Mentoring Scheme and preparing students to participate in both individual and team mathematics competitions.
