What the college says
This course is designed for post-16 students who have an interest in Physical Education and Sports Coaching and wish to start a career in leisure as a children's sports activities leader. It is an ideal qualification for learners intending to progress to employment in leisure, either directly or via an Apprenticeship.
What you need to get on
Required to have 4 GCSEs at grades 3-9 preferably including English, Maths and P.E. Alternatively, you should have a BTEC Level 1 Diploma in Sport and Active Leisure with Level 1 Functional Skills English and Maths. You will be able to choose one of the following academies on your application: Athletics, Basketball, Football, Tennis, Boxing, Flag Football, or Women?s Rugby. While it is ideal to have previous experience playing competitive sports, not necessary.
How you are assessed
Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.
What this level means
The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
