What the college says

You will develop the skills and knowledge to perform all aspects of site carpentry work, including first fix, second fix, structural carcassing and the carrying out of building maintenance. In addition to practical work, you will study theory subjects, which will include health and safety in the workplace, circular saws (types of, uses and maintenance) and building theory (calculations, communication and technical drawing).

What you need to get on

Minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grade D or above (if this does not include English and maths these MUST be studied as part of the Level 2 programme) or Level 1 Functional Skills equivalent in English and maths; successful interview and initial assessment; successful completion of Level 1 programme (progressing learners).

How you are assessed

Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.

What this level means

The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
