It allows candidates to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in Site Carpentry. It covers the following skills: • Carry out first fix flooring and roofing • Carry out first fix frames, partitions and stairs • Carry out second fixing operations • Carry out carpentry maintenance • Set up and operate a circular saw Functional Skills will be a mandatory part of your programme and followed at the appropriate level. These will provide you with the practical skills to work confidently, effectivey and independently. They open doors to learning, to life and to work. These skills are valued by employers and further education and are a platform on which to build other employability skills. Better functional skills can mean a better future - as learners or as employees and in everyday life. Functional Skills are essential skills in English, and Mathematics that enable everyone to deal with the practical problems and challenges of life - at home, in education and at work. They reinforce skills in communication, problem solving, listening and time management. For example, they help us recognise good value deals when making purchases, in writing an effective application letter, or when using the internet to access local services or online banking. They are about using English, and Mathematics in everyday situations.

What you need to get on

You will need to have achieved the L1 Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery previously or have vast experience in the industry. You will have to undertake the College Initial Assessment. All results will be discussed at interview stage. Candidates will need steel toe capped boots as well as any relevant stationary and a padlock for their own locker.

How you are assessed

Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.

What this level means

The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
