What the college says
This adult qualification will enable you to develop the knowledge and skills needed when Supporting Teaching and Learning in Primary or Secondary Schools. It covers a wide range of areas including children and young people’s development and communication and professional relationships. This course is suitable for anyone who is working or volunteering in a role that supports pupils’ learning. This course is assessed by your tutor or assessor using a range of methods. This could include direct observation in the workplace, a portfolio of evidence and written assignments. It will be an advantage if you are already working or volunteering before you start this course. However, if you are not we will help you find a relevant work placement. The course is College based for 1 day a week for an academic year and 280 hours of work related placement.
What you need to get on
For this course you will need at least a Grade D / 3 in English or a Functional Skills Level 1 English. Or ESOL Level 2 Speaking and Listening. Relevant work experience will also be considered on application. Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.

The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
