What the college says

This course will provide you with the skills and knowledge to perform all aspects of bench joinery work, including setting out details, marking out details and manufacturing routine joinery products. In addition to practical work, you will study theory subjects, which will include health and safety, circular saws (types of, uses and maintenance) and building theory (calculations, communication and technical drawings).

What you need to get on

Minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grade D or above (if this does not include English and maths these MUST be studied as part of the Level 2 programme) or Level 1 Functional Skills equivalent in English and maths; successful interview and initial assessment; successful completion of Level 1 programme (progressing learners).

How you are assessed

Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.

What this level means

The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
