Through the study of early modern British and modern European and World History you will develop skills of independent learning and critical enquiry. This will be achieved through a variety of means, including discussion and debate, extended writing, analysis of historical source materials and classroom presentations. History GCSE is a good preparation for A level study but is not essential. What you will do: • Deepen your understanding of British history by learning about the Early Tudors. Evaluate Henry VII's establishment of the Tudor dynasty, Henry VIII's Break with Rome and the extent of crisis under Edward VI and Mary. • Explore Russia's transition from absolute monarchy to fledgling to Communist dictatorship. Consider how war and revolution affected the nature of government and the lives of ordinary Russians between 1855 and 1964. • Extend your understanding of the 20th century by studying German history from 1919-63. Analyse Germany's democratic experiment in the 1920s, the impact of Nazi tyranny and Germany's subsequent rehabilitation after the Second World War. • Choose your own coursework topic and complete a 4000 word essay. Excellent preparation for University and an opportunity to pursue any area of historical interest.
