Exploring a broad and engaging curriculum in health and social care, this course will widen your knowledge about this sector. Through hands-on work and a work placement, you will develop both practical and investigative skills to support your studies. The qualification is particularly suited to learners who have the relevant interest and capability to progress in this sector as the course aims to inspire and enthuse you by strengthening your ability to work with others, improve your problem-solving skills, develop your independent study, personal learning and thinking skills; all of which are essential skills and attributes prized by employers. A work placement in a health care setting is required as part of this course providing you with a wider understanding and practical skills required for success in employment in the caring services as well as further study at level 3. If you are aged 16 to 18, you will be enrolled on a study programme. This will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven't already achieved a grade 4 or above. You will take part in activities that help you to develop your personal skills, such as building your character and confidence. This will help you to live well and move into your chosen career. If you are 16-19 years old these activities will be timetabled as will work experience and placement. You can also choose to take part in other activities. What you need to get on

Standard entry to this course requires one reference. It is desirable that you can demonstrate 90% attendance. A GCSE in both English and maths at grade 3 (D) or above and one further GCSE at grade 3(D) or above is required.

Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.
