This course is for students who want to continue studying geography after GCSE. You'll already be familiar with some of the topics, but the A level will give you the chance to study these and a number of new ones, in much greater depth. It's for you if you are interested in current global issues like climate change, migration, disease and environmental degradation. You might be choosing geography because you're headed for a career in a geography related occupation though it will give you a set of skills that can be used in a whole variety of careers. Geography is most often studied alongside the sciences, maths, business and economics; but it complements almost all subjects!

What you need to get on

The general entry requirement to be offered a place at Urmston Grammar Sixth Form from September 2026 is a minimum of five GCSE passes which include: 2 x grade 7s, 3 x grade 6s, GCSE grades must also include a minimum of grade 5 in English Language & Maths. To study this subject at A Level we would expect you to have achieved a Grade 6 or above at GCSE in Geography.
