What the college says

"Why choose to study Geography?: A-level geography is an opportunity to extend your knowledge of the world, and the people, places and systems within it. It is such a dynamic subject, as you will learn and understand how places, environments and issues can change and how the human population responds to this. What will I study?: At A level, students follow the OCR specification. There is a natural progression from GCSE to GCE, ensuring that there is development of content. The specification covers core human and physical geography. The human topics are migration, human rights, changing places, and disease dilemmas. The physical topics are coastal processes, tectonic hazards and Earths life support systems. What skills will I develop?: Students will use different types of geographical information, images, text and numerical data. They will undertake critical questioning, and present data in a range of ways. They will develop their communication skills, evaluate findings, draw well-evidenced conclusions, and construct extended written arguments about geographical matters. Opportunities: Town planning, surveying, conservation, sustainability, environmental planning and tourism. The army, police, research organisations, law and business world also love the practical research skills that geographers develop. "
