Art and Design AS Level students are learners who are curious; curious about the world around them, and curious about the potential of exploring and manipulating ideas visually. This is an exciting subject to study as the emphasis of the course is on learning ways and means to think creatively and be skilfully creative, whilst retaining significant personal ownership of ideas, content of study and outcomes be it sculptural, wearable art, painted or drawn. We offer a course where students can develop new skills and techniques such as working with clay and plaster, printmaking, painting, drawing, photography and creative textiles, working with specialist machinery and tools. AS Level Art and Design enables students to develop an ambitious portfolio of work, working in two or three dimensions and making choices that reflect personal interests. We think that developing a nurturing collaborative work environment within the Art Department is really important in supporting students to achieve highly and develop creative independence.

What you need to get on

A minimum Attainment 8 score of 60. A grade 6 in GCSE English Language and Maths. A grade 6 in the subject you wish to study (or two grade 6s if you wish to study a science and took Combined Science at GCSE). Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
