What the college says

This course will develop your theoretical knowledge of a range of topics and all of the lessons are theory based. However, you will also be assessed practically, and this will consist of you performing as a player or coach in one practical activity. You will also develop your understanding of a sport by completing an analysis of your performance and a project researching the provision and development of that activity. In theory lessons, you will gain an understanding of: anatomy, physiology, movement analysis, skill acquisition, sport psychology and sport history and sociology.

What you need to get on

The normal entry requirements apply for an advanced course, including a grade 5 or above in combined science. Additionally, a grade 5 or above at GCSE PE, or a merit grade at BTEC Sport level 2 is also required. Pupils will need to perform in one sport in order to be practically assessed. Passion & ability within sport is crucial for applicants. If these criteria are not met, a formal interview will be conducted by the PE department to assess your ability to successfully complete the course.
