A Level Mathematics is an interesting, academic and rigorous A Level that impresses universities and employers alike. It is an essential qualification for students looking to study Mathematics or Engineering at degree level, and is valuable for those looking for careers in engineering, meteorology, accounting, banking, logistics, quantity surveying and computer programming. There are 3 areas of study – Pure Mathematics, Statistics and Mechanics. These are all compulsory. Pure Mathematics content : Proof, algebra & functions, coordinate geometry in the (x,y) plane, sequences & series, trigonometry, exponentials & logarithms, differentiation, integration, numerical methods and vectors. Statistics content: Statistical sampling, data presentation & interpretation, probability, statistical distributions and statistical hypothesis testing. Mechanics content: Quantities & units in mechanics, kinematics, forces & Newton’s laws and moments

What you need to get on

Standard entry requiremtn:5 GCSEs graded at 4 or above (counting 2 BTECs maximum). A grade 4 in English or Maths The normal entry requirements for advanced courses apply including a minimum of grade 7 in GCSE Mathematics.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
