n the first Year students will study three aspects of Sociology.: Unit 1–This is an introduction to sociological perspectives including Marxists, functionalists, Feminists and Postmodernist views. It will also explore concepts in society such as inequality, the impact of the media, socialisation. Unit 2–This focus on the Education system in the UK and the impact it has on society. This includes topics such as the difference in achievement between girls and boys, the function of schools in society and the impact that educational reform has on schools. This unit also includes a focus on how research is undertaken by sociologists. Unit 3–This focuses on the family and its functions in society. It also includes topics such as how equal men and women are in the family, the changing patterns of marriage and divorce and the reasons for the existence of different family types.In the final year of A Level Sociology students will study two further topics: Unit 4–Crime and deviance in society. This includes the types of crimes, the difference in offending rates between women and men. Unit 5–Beliefs in society. This includes the purpose of religion in society. The difference between religious organisations, is religion still important today.
