If you are interested in the differences in societies and cultures and the differences and inequalities these can cause, then Sociology is a good choice for you. Sociology is a subject allows students to explore their natural curiosity about the world and will equip them with the knowledge and skills to help them to examine the social phenomena that affect people’s lives in profound ways. You do not need any previous experience of Sociology to take this course. The course can be taken alongside other A-Levels, and has many cross-curricular links with both Humanities, Sciences and other Social Science subjects. The course will also support the move onto higher education and employment in sectors such as Education, Welfare and Social Research.

What you need to get on

Students will be offered a place at St Wilfrid’s sixth form on the proviso that they will meet the following criteria: at least 5 9-4 grades including English and Mathematics. To study Sociology, students will need a minimum of a Grade 6 in a Humanities or ‘essay-based’ subject, such as English, History or Geography.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
