What the college says

Sociology is the study of how society is organized and how we experience life and it is becoming a more and more popular subject. Sociology is an academic subject which equips students with a range of skills; students will learn to think critically, to question common-sense assumptions, to solve problems, to work independently and as part of a group and to write a clearly structured, analytical essay. All of this is excellent preparation for university or for a whole range of careers including teaching, social work and the police force. Students will debate the issues that are important in our society and analyse and evaluate the sociological theories and research around topic areas such as the family, crime, education and the mass media. Anyone who has an interest in understanding how the world around them works, and who enjoys critical thinking and exploring ideas from different viewpoints would enjoy Sociology.
