Sociology is the study of society, and of human behaviour in society. We investigate topics such as social inequality, culture and identity, the mass media and globalisation. We explore how peoples gender identity, ethnicity, sexuality and social class can impact on their life chances. We also study key sociological theories such as Functionalism, Marxism and Feminism, and study the research methods that sociologists use.

What you need to get on

Grade 5 in either English language/literature, or a humanity. It is not essential to have studied GCSE sociology, but for those who have, a minimum of grade 5 is required.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
