What the college says

The Sociology Alevel course looks at why people behave the way they do and how society affects behaviour. The course covers a range of topic areas such as families and households, education, theories and methods, globaldevelopmentsand crime and deviance. We look at all of these areas in relation to gender, social class, age and ethnicity. There are many sociological theories such as Functionalism, Marxism, Feminism, etc. and important key concepts that will bring sociology to life that you will learn about. Lessons are engaging with lots of opportunities to get involved with discussion and relate sociological theory to contemporary society. We not only look at the UK, but look at how people live around the globe. You will be able to develop your understanding of why people behave the way they do as well as work on your analytical and evaluative skills.

What you need to get on

The entry requirement is at least a grade 5 in GCSE Englishand Mathsand a keen interest in wanting to learn about the study of people

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.

The A-level-equivalent step, and what universities and employers ask for.
