The qualification builds on the knowledge and skills that you achieved in GCSE Science and gives you the opportunity to apply your understanding of Physics to new ideas and to understand existing concepts in greater depth. Students who study A Level Physics might aspire to a career as a scientist, engineer or physicist but above all have a desire to understand how the world around them operates and a strong scientific and mathematical ability.

What you need to get on

You will need at least a grade 7:6 in GCSE combined science (including the Physics component) and grade 6 in GCSE Mathematics or grade 6 in GCSE Physics and grade 6 in GCSE Mathematics. Communication is also important as you will need to be able to communicate effectively, carry out research and critically think about problems.

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
