This course is for students who want to continue studying physics after GCSE. You'll already be familiar with some of the topics like forces and electricity, but the A level will give you the chance to study these and some new ones, in much greater depth. You might be choosing physics because you're headed for a scientific career, though it will give you transferable skills that can be used in a wide range of non-scientific careers too. To study Physics A level, you'll need a keen interest in science and good maths skills.

What you need to get on

Grade 7 in GCSE Physics or Grades 7 and 7 in GCSE Combined Science, APS of at least 5.5, English and Maths GCSE at grade 5 or higher. It is useful, but not essential for students to study A Level Mathematics. Any mathematics beyond GCSE that is required by the physics course will be taught in physics lessons

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
