This course provides students with the opportunity to develop and apply their knowledge of literary analysis and evaluation, as well as their understanding of the concepts and methods appropriate for the analysis and study of language. Students use linguistic and literary approaches in their reading and interpretation of texts, showing how the two disciplines can relate to each other, engaging creatively and critically with a wide range of texts. Throughout the course, students explore the ways in which texts relate to each other and the contexts in which they are produced and received. They develop their skills as producers and interpreters of language, undertaking independent and sustained studies.

Students are expected to have gained a Grade 6 in GCSE English Language and a Grade 5 in English Literature.

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
