If you have an interest in current affairs and the economy then Economics is for you, as the economic concepts you learn in the classroom can be applied to the real world. Do you find yourself wondering about the causes of the significant rise in the UK inflation rate, why poverty exists or whether Brexit was the right decision for the UK, if so, studying Economics will provide answers. You don't need to have studied economics at GCSE to take the A Level course. Depending on the career path you want to take in the future, economics fits particularly well with other social science subjects, with history, geography, but equally as well with business related subjects. It will give you a great set of transferable skills frequently sought by employers including numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills as well as commercial awareness: an essential requirement for business.

What you need to get on

Grade 6 or higher in GCSE Economics. Students who have not studied Economics at GCSE can gain entry via a Grade 6 in both Mathematics and English. APS of at least 5.5. Maths and English at 5 or above (for those students who have achieved Grade 6 or higher in GCSE Economics)

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
